4. Altered Taste Sensations
Just as your sense of smell can change, your taste buds may also be affected by menopause. You might develop cravings for unusual foods. This might not seem so strange if you've experienced cravings for chocolate during your period or a sudden love for sardines while pregnant. So don't be surprised if you find yourself longing for sour pickles during menopause. Your overall perception of taste can shift too. Foods you once loved might now seem unappealing, and vice versa. This happens partly because you produce less saliva. Saliva helps break down food so you can taste it; with less saliva, flavors come across differently.
