Symptoms
The following seven signs are typical of (acute) appendicitis:
- Intense and often sudden pain that begins around your navel.
- After a few hours, the pain shifts to the lower right side of your abdomen.
- The pain gradually becomes more severe.
- The pain is unlike anything you have felt before.
- Pressing and then releasing your belly causes pain. Coughing, taking a deep breath, or other jarring movements trigger sharp, stabbing pain.
- You have a fever (usually below 39°C / 102.2°F).
- The pain may be accompanied by nausea, loss of appetite, constipation, and vomiting.
