“I just wanted to be myself.”
Despite enjoying a stellar career as a film star in the 1950s, Bardot looks back on that period with mixed feelings. She quit acting at the peak of her fame in 1973, leaving the film industry behind to begin what she describes as 'her real life'. “Throughout my entire life, before and after And God Created Woman, I was never able to be what I truly wanted: direct and honest,” Bardot explains. She became a global sensation as a sultry 'kitten' and pin-up girl. “I wasn't outrageous at all, nor did I wish to be. I simply wanted to be myself, just myself.”
