Step 2: Apply Liquid Laundry Detergent
If rinsing the fresh stain under cold water doesn't completely remove it, try gently (!) rubbing the stain with liquid laundry detergent mixed with cold water. No liquid detergent at home? A small amount of dish soap works just as well. Let it sit for about five minutes, ensuring the soap doesn't dry out, then rinse with cold water. For older stains, apply the liquid detergent as described, but then submerge the entire garment in a bucket of water. Every five minutes, remove it and carefully rub the stain to loosen it. Rinse thoroughly.
