Study Reveals: Neglected Coffee Machines Harbor Harmful Bacteria

Family Testing

For this study, CBS Chicago asked ten local families if they could inspect their single-serve coffee makers. The reporter brought the machines to a laboratory, where researchers thoroughly analyzed them for bacterial contamination. Swabs were taken from the coffee grounds tray, the water flow area, and the water reservoir. The results were alarming: pathogens like staphylococci, streptococci, and Bacillus cereus were found on the devices. Even more concerning, traces of E. coli were detected on one machine. Yuck! Definitely not something you want in your morning coffee.
