Long Journey
The turtle endured an incredibly long and arduous journey before reaching Ireland. It was injured, dehydrated, underweight, and suffering from hypothermia. This baby loggerhead turtle typically nests in the ocean near Florida and the Carolinas. After hatching, they swim into the Gulf Stream. When large enough, they head toward the Canary Islands. However, currents can steer them off course, stranding them along the southeastern US coast. But this little one ended up all the way in Ireland.
