What appears to be a Victorian terrace is actually a cleverly constructed frontage. Built in the 19th century, these fake houses hide a secret: they were designed to conceal the Metropolitan Railway's ventilation shafts and emergency exits. The illusion is so convincing that few realize the doors and windows are purely decorative.
