How Can You Recognize It?
There are three major symptoms of teeth grinding to look out for. The first is tooth wear. Because you're unconsciously applying significant pressure and moving your teeth, parts of the enamel may wear away. You might not notice this right away, but your dentist can spot it during an exam. They can provide a mouthguard to prevent excessive pressure in the future.
The second sign is jaw pain or soreness. Grinding puts strain on your jaw muscles, leading to discomfort, especially in the morning. You might also hear clicking sounds when you open or close your mouth.
The third symptom is frequent headaches, particularly tension headaches near the temples. The constant clenching and grinding can trigger headaches that start upon waking.
