6. Vanilla
You might not expect to find vanilla on this list, but it is actually the most expensive spice in the world. Cultivating and harvesting vanilla from Madagascar is extremely difficult and labor-intensive, which explains its high price of around €300 per kilogram. That's what you pay for top-quality vanilla. After harvesting, the beans are dried for several months, and the entire production process takes about a year. That certainly justifies the cost!
