Democratic People's Republic: A Misnomer

Although officially called a Democratic People's Republic, North Korea has little to do with democracy. It is a dictatorship and currently the most oppressive state in the world. Human rights are meaningless here. Any criticism of the government is brutally punished. All media (television, radio) are state-controlled and censored. No citizen is allowed to leave the country. Those who break the rules and are sentenced to death (which is not uncommon) are executed publicly.
