Shelf Life
Food producers extend the shelf life of canned fruit through processing—that's why it stays good for so long! Be especially cautious of labels reading "in syrup," as these indicate very high sugar content. Dried fruit faces similar issues: many vitamins, especially vitamin C, are lost during high-temperature drying, and extra sugar is added for sweetness. You don't need to avoid these entirely, but if you're cutting back on sugar, fresh fruit is a better choice.
