4. The Brakes
Do your brakes look unusual or emit a peculiar odor? If so, something is likely amiss. Brakes consist of many components—pads, rotors, hydraulic cylinders, hoses—and all must function properly. Certain issues are more common. Are your brakes squeaking? That often points to rotor trouble. Do they smell like plastic or burning hair? That typically indicates a pad problem. If either occurs regularly, the affected parts probably need replacement.
