Recognizing the Early Signs of Parkinson's Disease

Common Symptoms

As noted earlier, the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are not uniform across all patients. However, there is a set of symptoms that are frequently associated with the disease. The most common include:

  • Tremors or shaking
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Slowness and reduction of movement
  • Persistent fatigue
  • Shuffling gait when walking
  • Impaired ability to move an arm or leg properly
  • Difficulties with balance
  • Speech changes, such as a soft or monotone voice
  • Handwriting cramps or micrographia
  • Reduced facial expression (masked face)
