Unable to afford an ultrasound
Arifa and her husband come from impoverished backgrounds, which meant they could not pay for ultrasounds during the entire pregnancy. Arifa's gynecologist, Sheila Poddar, who works at the university clinic in Khulna and attended the twin delivery, stated: "She didn't know she was still pregnant with twins." Neither did the doctors.
