When It’s Time to Call Someone
If you've adjusted the flapper, chain, and water level and the toilet still runs, a part may be too worn to function properly. You're still likely not facing a major repair—just replacing a small part. For instance, if the flapper is cracked, stiff, or no longer sealing even when seated correctly, it may need replacing. The same goes for fill valves or floats that no longer respond as they should.
